Former President Boni Yayi Summoned by the Courts today

Former Benin President, Boni Yayi has been summoned, by an investigating judge of the Cotonou Court of First Instance, who  will interrogate him at his residence at 3:30pm today.

This new episode of the Benin “post electoral crisis”, follows the opening of formal proceedings by the Prosecutor’s Office for an “unarmed assembly”, in which hundreds of alleged perpetrators of acts of post- election violence witnessed on May 1st and May 2nd, in the Cadjehoun district of Cotonou, have been arrested.

According to the judicial authorities, 64 of these individuals who have been charged for “unarmed assembly”,  all appeared before the Tribunal on May 28th, while Justice Rodolphe Azo, the presiding judge in this flagrante delicto procedure declined jurisdiction over the matter. This decision which was appealed by the Prosecutor’s Office led to the designation of Investigating Judge Aubert Kodjo, who will be interrogating the former President today.
